BeeRides is set to change how people own and rent cars

BeeRides is rapidly becoming the next disruptive solution to change the way people own and rent cars. Like many great ideas, the concept is blissfully simple: generate income by renting out unused vehicles at airports to incoming travelers at competitive prices. BeeRides is an ambitious ‘sharing economy’ company that has set itself the goal of solving the problem of under-utilized cars globally. Together with other investors including its original backers, iEurope Capital LLC (a US based private equity firm with offices in Budapest and New York, investing in high growth potential digital companies in CEE), as well as angel investors like BW-Invest, we invested this month in BeeRides. It’s another example of how innogy is discovering sharing solutions to city transport problems.

Motivated by developments in the sharing economy sector, BeeRides was founded in 2015 in Budapest by young entrepreneurs, Botond A. Bosze and Szilard Bozoki, who set out to develop a disruptive solution to change how people own and rent cars. The company pioneered its services at Budapest airport before expanding into Germany in 2017 where it currently operates at Dortmund Airport. The next location will be Düsseldorf Airport. Boosted by very positive customer feedback and a high share of returning customers, BeeRides has so far managed 25k parking and 12k rental days, while growing at 300% per year.

The car rental market at airports presents a great opportunity, with an estimated size of 32 billion euros globally and 11% annual growth. BeeRides earns most of it revenue by charging a commission on the rental transactions on its platform. The team is made up of an experienced management team and high-level tech developers. Botond A. Bosze, a serial entrepreneur with a background in VC investments, is thrilled to have Gergo Kalcsics join him this month as Co-CEO. Gergo, who recently led a venture for the German e-commerce giant Zalando, brings broad, proven experience in growing companies and is widely networked in the German start-up scene.

“BeeRides is ready to scale successfully with its highly efficient and user-friendly car sharing platform offer. We are also pleased that innogy Innovation Hub has joined as an investor. We believe this demonstrates that the mobility sector must think about cross impacts between the sharing economy and energy delivery.”

Laszlo Robert Czirjak, Co-Founder and Managing Partner at iEurope Capital.

“We believe that car rentals can be cheaper and that our hassle-free way of renting cars will revolutionize customer experience in the industry. As well as being significantly leaner in our processes, customers prefer our fast and automated pick-up instead of the typical over-the-counter experience of traditional car rental companies.”
