Welcome to Growth Camp
We believe that the energy system of the future will be shaped by four key trends – decarbonisation, decentralisation, digitisation and democratisation – and that driving these trends forward with their game-changing technologies and ideas will be today’s start-ups. First, however, they must complete the journey from seed to scale-up, and in order to do so we fundamentally believe they will need collaboration opportunities and targeted growth support. That is where innogy Innovation Hub’s Growth Camp comes in.
What is Growth Camp?
Our inaugural Growth Camp is a UK market entry initiative for selected innogy Innovation Hub start-ups. Based on start-ups’ feedback from the many accelerators and incubators we’ve been involved with, it takes a highly focused and tailored approach to provide the most requested support elements and connections to achieve maximise the impact. These are focused on:
- Up-skilling in three key areas:
- storytelling that can set a pitch apart
- negotiation tactics
- UK market entry legal aid
- Collaboration and partnership opportunities between corporates and start-ups
- Exposure to relevant investors in the UK

How does it work?
The first Growth Camp event – Cyber Growth Camp – was held over two days from 5-6 June with a group of six cyber security-focused start-ups. With damage related to cyber crime expected to reach $6 trillion annually by 2021, cyber security is rising up the board agenda. Cyber Growth Camp made for an engaging showcase of the latest innovations from the sector.
The first day focused on skills with the businesses taking away valuable tips and tricks from legal masterclass and storytelling workshops.
Day two focused on introductions. In a ’speed dating’ style intensive networking session, the start-ups each met with a series of corporates on a one-to-one basis in five-minute rotations to explore specific opportunities, challenges and use-cases for their technologies in the hope of finding their perfect match. One start-up described the event as ‘a great use of our time’ and noted that they made a similar number of solid leads in just one afternoon ’speed dating’ at Growth Camp as they had during the previous three full days at the UK’s biggest cyber conference.
Following resoundingly positive feedback from all parties, we followed the same format for our PropTech Growth Camp, in which six start-ups focused on property technology or construction technology took part from 25-26 June. The event was equally well-received, and timely – at a time when the UK’s real estate industry is grappling with a housing crisis and the threat of a post-Brexit loss of its skilled construction staff from other EU countries, new technological innovations promise to take some of the weight off.
Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH), one of the UK and Ireland’s leading, most progressive property consultancies with more than 40 offices and 1,700 staff, was one of the corporates participating in PropTech Growth Camp.

In September, innogy Innovation Hub will host an investor-facing closing event with a roundtable discussion featuring some of the participating start-ups and corporates from both the Cyber and PropTech Growth Camps. At the event, our Growth Camp start-ups will pitch to a hand-picked audience of UK-based venture capital firms and corporates and take their conversations with corporates to the next level.
Who are the Growth Camp UK start-ups?
Growth Camp UK focuses on start-ups looking to enter or grow their business in the UK. Some participants are part of our existing portfolio while others are part of the wider tech start-up ecosystem, but all have already successfully raised funds in the past, and are now looking to close Series A in the near future.
Cyber Growth Camp includes the following companies:

- Senseon’s threat detection senses work together to detect malicious activity across an organisation’s entire digital estate
- Red Sift is an open platform delivering products that prevent cyber attacks
- WoTT is a free, automated, open-source public key infrastructure for connected hardware
- Secure Code Warrior provides secure coding training for software developers
